At a dinner on June 18th
Kendall Masonic Lodge presented its annual scholarships and Mirabeau B.
Lamar Medals to outstanding Boerne students and educators.
This
year’s scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors Miranda
Jones, who was unable to attend, and Daniel Newhart in recognition
of their excellent and well-rounded performance in the Boerne school
system. They were each given $1,000 to be applied to tuition, books
and fees at any college or university.
Lauren
Hickey was awarded a Lamar Medal because after encountering a major
health problem in her sophomore year of high school, her remarkable
drive to recover and rehabilitate herself enabled her to play
basketball and volleyball in her junior and senior years as well as
graduate in the top 10% of her class.
Boerne
educator, Kathryn Davis, although unable to attend, received the
second Lamar Medal for impressive results in teaching Advanced
Placement English while raising triplet grandchildren. The triplets
are currently in the third grade and Ms. Davis has certainly earned
everyone’s respect for her ability to excel as an educator while
maintaining a busy household.

Kendall Masonic Lodge at a open
meeting on March 26, 2007, presented Kendall County Judge Gaylan
Schroeder with the Community Builder Award. This award is to
recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves
through their service to the community, to the local, state or
national government, to their Churches or Synagogues, or to
humanity. The award is presented to individuals who, although they
have never been initiated into Masonry, have followed the same
precepts, ideals, and standards that have been established for
Masonic behavior.
Before being elected Kendall County Judge, Gaylan Schroeder already
had a long and distinguished record of service to our community. He
has been a successful businessman and involved with almost every
civic and charitable organization in the Boerne area. Before
presenting the award, SD Jonathan Cluck listed Judge Schroeder's
many labors in building our community and left no doubt that he was
indeed deserving.
Judge Gaylan Schroeder’s wife and children are following his example
of service by also contributing to many local charitable endeavors.
